Toupees, Dash Covers, & Student Leadership Training

Life has come full circle.  My middle son just donated his first car back to us since he's upgraded. It's great timing as our youngest heads to a private college in Santa Barbara, CA.  The 2000 Mitsubishi Gallant has a few years left in it, but the dash was cracked, so I purchased a cover.  But now that it's in place, I'm not sure what I like least, the cracks or wrinkly carpet.  The dash cover reminds me of a bad toupee. 

When I interact with people who work with youth, who claim to do leadership training, I'm curious as to what they do.  When I'm allowed to observe or review the materials, I nearly always walk away with the same feeling of seeing someone with a bad toupee.  For some reason, people who work with youth tend to confuse student leadership with things such as character development, confidence building, teamwork, and inspiration.  All of these are good, but they're different from actually teaching students how to lead.  KidLead's committed to developing the world's finest young leader training curricula.  As we approach the release of KiddieLead and Lead1st, for ages 2-9, we want to drive the stake in the ground for quality, age-sized, executive-caliber training.  Don't settle for a cheap toupee.

Love Principals Like Mrs. Bartlow

This morning, I began meeting with principals and school administrators, introducing them to LeadYoung Institute. Although I've now sent emails to all public and private schools in the Conejo Valley, I'm curious as to who the early adopters are. My first meeting was with Mrs. Carey Bartlow, Principal of Cypress Elementary School in Newbury Park. I was very impressed with her recognition of students who were social catalysts as well as understanding the difference between leading and administrating.  I've found this is more rare than we'd like to think among educators. So while I'm excited to meet more local educators, I'm very impressed with Principal Bartlow. No doubt Cypress has a bright future with her leadership. http://www.conejousd.org/cypress/Home.aspx
